Choosing A Trainer & Starting
Choosing a Personal Trainer - I strongly suggest the person you are considering
for strength training look like a weight lifter.
Weight lifting is a complex activity. When a person lifts for a number of years we learn how to stress muscles or muscle groups to stimulate muscle growth. For each muscle group there may to 10 to 25 different exercises we can perform; understanding and time permits an individual to gain know-how and select the correct movements for themselves and others.Safety is always the primary concern of a good personal trainer. Working one on one ensures equipment safety considerations.
A personal trainer can observe your lifting techniques for form, progress and results. Weight lifting, to be effective and safe must follow specific biomechanical principles.
Your rate of development:
If a person is new to weight lifting they normally do not know where to start... If I have pain, what does that mean? How many repetitions and sets? How much weight should I use? What movements should I do and how often? This is one instance of where too much of a good thing can really be a bad thing.
A good personal trainer will protect you from yourself. If the weight, sets, repetition or movement is incorrect, your experience may be a waste of your time and effort or worse yet, detrimental. Injuries from weight lifting are very common from trying to lift or push more weight than what a body can tolerate. All of your efforts are recorded, so a charted progress can be seen.

Lifting techniques:
Working with you, a good trainer will guide, educate and help you understand the proper lifting technique for specific body part development. Your education and learning of proper technique is of utmost importance. Proper training will permit you to use any gym, weight lifting or home equipment with confidence, knowledge and safety.
Feeling out of place:
Using a gym for the first time or being new to formal excercise may cause an intimidation factor. When others around us are familiar with the equipment, we start to feel out of place and intimated. These feelings can have an effect on our drive to work out; producing a negative state of mind which is counter productive to maximizing your workout effort. This may cause some people to stop altogether. One on one training erases these fears. As your training progresses, you feel more comfortable and confident with your knowledge and success.
I do not accept applications for training, only your commitment!
I will commit to helping you, but you also must commit to pushing
yourself with training and working within a reasonable diet.
Weight Lifting and Training is discipline...mentally you must condition your
mind for lifting to become an effective tool for muscle development,
conditioning and overall wellness. Weight training is extremely complex
activity as the
human body has numerous muscle groups throughout the body requiring
exercise.
My responsibility is to outline various training
programs to exercise and develop those muscle groups.
95% of the time diet or weight loss and body weight control are
the major concerns of most people starting weight training.
We start by discussing your goals, expectation and your diet. After
listening to what your expectations are, we can discuss how I can
help you obtain your goals. Medical problems or limitations are also
included in this discussion. I will also ask what you expect from
me.
I provide personal weight training in 2 different ways:
- At my facilities using upper body, abdominal, and leg weight
lifting equipment. All of the equipment displayed on this
website is in use in my gym
- At a client’s home

I have found that 5 or 6 lifting sessions are required
for a person to acquire muscle isolation knowledge and the working
knowledge to move from one exercise to another.
For weight training to be effective it should be done, at a minimum,
twice a week (toning). To see good muscle development - 3
times a week is recommended.
